Étienne Parent was born in 1802 on his parents' farm in Beauport.
A journalist at the newspaper Le Canadien, he became its editor-in-chief in 1822, at the age of 20.
A nationalist, he was also a deputy and first librarian of the Legislative Assembly of Lower Canada. "[...] his writings still find a relevant echo and remain the sure reference of a crucial stage in the history of Quebec. »
